big brothers

A late-night supper turned into a hilarious car conv under my block. it was great to catch up! :) Changes made us uncertain, and uncertainty was what bonded us together again when we consulted each other.

I suddenly find myself being very protected and well-loved! thanks guys, i felt like i gained two big brothers over the night who will do anything to shield me from harm. though the metaphors were kinda stretching it, but i get the gist! hahaha! it's a really good feeling to know that people are genuinely willing to stand up for you. :) I will do the same too!

Ahhh spanish test on wed!!

and i have a date for today! :D movie marathon! some friends are too precious to let tests get in the way. haha!

thou shall not lie

the very funny ethical story recounted by my prof during media law lecture today is very realistic in fact. i'll forever remember the word 'snuggles'. hahaha!

poor regina and i fell sick at the same time, and just when i thought i'm getting better, the flu bug caught up to me again and decided to stay with me for good. urgh. the flu tablets seem to help a bit, but not a lot though. =(

i'm really considering a backpacking/farmstay grad trip, maybe to new zealand. or europe if airfares are 800bucks. it is possible though. i don't mind japan too. but i want a local flavour in it. some homestay/immersion plans would be good. :D

thanks to ZC for your gifts today! :) ur photoshop skills not bad eh. maybe one day we'll really work in germany/finland (but i don't want to be fishing all day long) /sweden. thanks for being inspiring!

here's a very nice song jinli shared with me:

I realised jinli is one person who has very similar music preferences with me, so much so that i totally trust her when she recommends me new songs. haha!

nope, i'm not gonna be a filler. thanks to the ones who made me realise that.

funny conv

oh it's so fun chatting with siew about future husbands and pre pre-nuptials (double negative is delibrate) and predicted life and CPF retirement plans. hahahaha!

too bad i can't copy and paste the conv here for future enjoyment cos I would need to censor some stuff and the conv won't look as funny already. =P

But I can recount a funny thing that happened during dinnertime!

And so, my dad is banned from eating chicken and eggs 'cos he's coughing

Jings* con te partiro says (10:52 PM):
but he secretly took one piece of seaweed chicken to put on his plate of rice during dinner
then i went "ehhh you cannot eat that"

Jings* con te partiro says (10:53 PM):
then he said "rubbish." and took a bite, then putting the other half back on his plate
and went to toilet
then i koped that and ate it
and quickly distributed the rest of the seaweed chicken pieces
so he couldn't take more
then he came back, realised that his beloved chicken is missing, and went, "eh! my chicken!"

?Fresk!Idio't says (10:53 PM):
LOL

Jings* con te partiro says (10:54 PM):
and he mumbled, "my chicken disappeared leh"

meaningful conversation

A casual dinner meet-up with mavis and lala turned out to be one of the most insightful conversations I've had these days. Then again, I've had a number of meaningful conversations lately, with all my steamboat eating habits. =P speaking of which, I actually developed rashes after a steamboat dinner with siew -.- how can a shrimp be allegic to shrimps?!

guess it doesn't matter what you eat (cos we had soup spoon), but rather who you are with. so it's still the people that matter! :D

many ethical discussions came up during out chat, and i'm glad to have learnt some stuff from you girls, and also hearing the very interesting story you have ah vis! hahaa. glad you made the right decision in the end, though it might be painful, but it's still in the best interest for both parties. :)

I think finding out who you really are and being able to hold on to your true self is very important. no wonder self-actualization is so hard to achieve. lol.

so let me post a question to you all: how long do you think it takes to know a person's true nature/innate characteristics/life history?

P.S: i'll be waiting for more juicy details on next sat night! ;) lala, don't act blur!

With love, the toy cameras

Photobucket

I've officially fallen in love with toy cameras and the above pictures can testify to that. :)

I love the grainy feel of the pictures, the pin-hole effect that focuses your attention, the vivid colours that are unpredictable, the effect of capturing a moment on film, the anticipation of waiting for the photos to be developed, the joy of looking at each and every single one of them, the rush of memories that were brought back, and lastly, the happiness brought about by sharing them with others :)

Check out the full range of photos on my facebook profile!

steamboat - again

steamboat and it's healing properties worked its way on me (and siew) today! cost of this cures-all medicine? $17.90nett per person.

Not for eveyday use, but once in awhile, to catch up with old pals, it's a money well spent. heh.

Also, it's one of the better steamboats I've ate, and trust me, I've ate in a lot of different steamboat restaurants. haha! They have dispenser drinks (one that i'm grateful for), cooked food (nice man tous and chilli crabs), fresh prawns (we ate a bucketful of them as usual), endless supply of golden mushrooms (a must-have), great ambience (not very crowded, just the right pace of crowd), and most importantly, AWESOME music played!!!!!

when we were there, they played a cd full of random chinese pop songs from jj lin, jay chou, classic duets and various oldies. a perfect combination in my opinion :)

Find it at bukit timah, near ala meem, the row of eateries beside courts. it's opened till 3am everyday.

man, i should get a free meal for endorsing them haha! i plan to visit there more often soon! yay, now siew and i have other choices apart from ala meem and it's pattayas. hahaha

but i better not have more of those 'steamboat craving' days soon. will burn a hole in my pocket.

i'm itching to sing though =( i've been deprived of it for weeks!

Halloween horrors

Celebrated bestie's belated birthday at the night safari yesterday night, and didn't regret a single moment of it!

Granted, it's rather expensive if you pay for the full sum (admission - $22, train of terror tram ride - $13, total $35) But for us who were blessed by the birthday girl's luck, this very nice lady who queued behind us offered to help us buy our tickets at half the price, as she had some discount coupons. :D :D so we got our half-priced admission ticket in the end, plus the not-discounted tram ride, it's only $24 for an awesome evening!

Since Halloween is creeping up to us (31 oct is the exact date if i'm not mistaken), night safari has planned a whole Halloween experience for its visitors starting from random undead figures who went around scaring people from their backs to a walking trial that looks very much like our orientation camp's fright night! (with better props though, since they have the moolah). Though i'm not exactly a fan of horror movies (i loathe them), I quite like being scared in real life. wahahaha. fun!

*note: disturbing pictures may be seen soon, if you don't wish to see them, please skip to the middle of this blog (use your scroll at the right side of the screen and scroll really fast) to view my very serene and joyful kinabalu trip instead.

all ready? here we go!

steamed-boat dinner

Steamboating is becoming a regular verb in my dictionary now.

It represents:
- plates of yummy food (must always include prawns. and corn. and crab meat)
- long hours of chatting and sharing session with your dear ones
- gallons of laughter and revelation moments
- plenty of analyzing going on and also shaping of certain definitions
- unforgettable memories!

thanks to reina for the very entertaining steamboat dinner in canteen B just now, though we somehow managed to burn a piece dang hoon and almost caught fire ourselves! hahaha!

can't wait for our next session next week! heh. :)

"Zainab Banu just took some of your crops in country story!"

Omg. the fact that my fave sec sch teacher steals crops from me in the online virtual game is downright hilarious!

Kota Kinabalu trip 29 Sep - 1 Oct

It all begins with a harmless check on jetstar's website for juicy deals that will let me fly to destinations for under $100.

Which ultimately became an awesome sponsored trip to Kota Kinabalu, East Malaysia from 29 Sep to 1 Oct 2009! :D

Let the story unfold with 156 pictures in total...

Wait wait! Before everything, I'm supposed to show how best I can spend the RM60 allowance given to us (cos we flew jetsaver light and saved on the checked-in luggage fee!) on 5 things, but I think there are more than 5, so I'll just list them here and you can spot them in the following entry!

1) Shopping at central market, filipino market, handicrafts market - RM5 for very yummy keropokes
2) Buying a pair of beautiful sunglasses at RM10 after spending nearly an hour in the shop chatting with the nice sales girls.
3) Devouring Bak Ku Teh at the famous shop on Gaya Street - RM15 (inclusive of Bak Kut Teh, rice, you tiao, veg, mushrooms, tao fu, meatballs and delicious chinese tea) not bad right?
4) Speedboat ride to Pulau Manukan for snorkelling - RM15 for the snorkelling equipment
5) Whisky dry drink at BED pub @ the waterfront - RM15 (excluding taxes)

Total: RM60 exactly! heh. of course I spent much more than that =/ but that's basically the highlights. :)

Photobucket
Queuing up to check-in at an unearthly hour of 5.20am. but it's good in a way, we get to have an extremely long day ahead.

Photobucket
smile, you're on camera!

Photobucket
i have this fetish of taking photos of boarding passes. guess it kind of certify that i'm actually flying. :)

Photobucket
introducing the main leads for the story... we are a lucky team 7!! that's shuhui, my kai xin guo!

Photobucket
and mornings make me hyper. it's me, jing!

Photobucket
aww... we spotted a pair of elderly couple holding hands and immediately acted like paparazzi, trying to get a photo of their hand-holding activity. :P so sweet!

Photobucket
shuhui had that 'i'm in heaven' look, which is literally true, in a way. haha!

Photobucket
thank you sabah tourism board! for the stuffed proboscis monkey, countless of maps that made my dad a very happy man, and the lovely hospitality bestowed on us!

Photobucket
Imperial International Hotel, our sleeping quarters for the trip. it's a super deluxe room, which is just one level lower than their suite, and is HUGE. check out that lounge chair/sofa, I almost fell asleep just lounging on it. I almost wanted to cart it back to SG, but my luggage allowance won't allow for it. =P

Photobucket
spacious area with tv and a study table.

Photobucket
beautiful bathroom!!! I feel like Her Majesty here.

Photobucket
that's the court jester wahahahaha!!!

Photobucket
full length mirror! we're sooo pampered

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket
and that's the other half of the room. heehee

Photobucket
my first purchase - a rather bland double choc ice blended at centrepoint mall

Photobucket
a hearty lunch that costs RM7.50!

Photobucket
a very hungry shuhui

Photobucket
they allowed us to pick and choose the quantity of various dishes available. so i can get one piece of cai xin, and one piece of curry chicken, and one piece of potato and one garlic... you get the gist. :) don't really know how they count though. maybe it's just a rough gauge

Photobucket
fresh corals for sale!

Photobucket
how their dry market looks like

Photobucket
i bought a packet of keropoke here though I know it's a rip-off. well, i'm easily swayed by nice service. :)

Photobucket
BOO

Photobucket
toad bags - they were once alive - 'nuff said

to quote shuhui: "no wonder they all look different from each other!" will you carry a dead toad around with money inside? I guess i can post the same question to people who carry genuine crocodile leather bags

Photobucket
cute guitars at their central market

Photobucket
the filipino market had me feeling like a prey being hunted while we strolled down the narrow aisle while trying our best to ignore all the "pretty girl, come buy!" "konichiwa??" in the end i bought a fish which I didn't bring back. wanted to use it for our starjump shot, but didn't manage to. haha

Photobucket
this place is picture perfect in an unique way, but it stinks

Photobucket
see the kit-kat stick? it doesn't taste like one at all. haha

Photobucket

Photobucket
a very popular chinese yam cha place. people do nothing but sit there and chit-chat or play farmville on their laptops. i'm dead serious. keke. it's called fook seok yue or sth along those lines. found it at the asia city complex

Photobucket
there were a lot of hand-crafted bags but all at a very high price =(

Photobucket
the whole lot of us trying the impossible

Photobucket
nope, didn't make it =(

Photobucket
it's okay, we had fun :D

Photobucket
as you can see, the waters were not very clear that day, so when we went snorkelling, we couldn't see much stuff actually. and i was terrified at the fact that schools of fishes were surrounding me trying to get food. =/ okay i don't like slimy scales. i would much rather look at you all from a safe distance. plus the fact that i totally can't trend water and i'm in the open sea with only a life jacket to save me. gulp. but it was quite an experience hahaa!

Photobucket
yay i'm finally in the air!

Photobucket
our unicyclist friend :)

Photobucket
the not-so-nice hazelnut ice cream. i think both shuhui and i gave up on finding nice ice cream in KK.

Photobucket

Photobucket
fake vodka in a supermart. hahahaha

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket
back to projects, fyp, tuitions, and my home sweet home. :)

to sum it all up, i never ever regretted clicking the 'send' button to submit my application because the yearn to travel overpowers most stuff haha. it was a wonderful trip filled to the brim with really friendly people who clicked though we are all from different backgrounds and are of different age. :) i really cherish the times whereby we cracked jokes on how to earn money to offset our expenditures (sell honey in sticks and sugared chin chow water hahaha) and also just having the time of our lives. :)

Thank you everyone, for the unforgettable memories, and maybe one day Jetstar will fly us all to some other place again for free!!!! hopefully taipei! *crosses fingers* (I'll gladly do a twenty-page blog on that)

speaking of which, I'm still in the process of creating my travel-only blog filled with tibits of useful info on all the places i've been to, plus my itineraries for all to use, and of course, truckload of pictures! do stay tuned for it! :D
