yep, it's a very thick stack of letter addressed to your truly and guess who it is from?
Reader's Digest!
i'm so totally disgusted and amused with it.
in my opinion, it is a rather bad advertising strategy. argh, scrap that. it's horrible advertising. i'm so bemsued by it that i don't know whether to laugh or cry. so that's why i'm blogging it to share with the world =D or at least, the virtual world. i think they 'koped' my address from Time magazine.

a mock car key? how exciting. seriously, i guess they can tempt those bored people who have nothing to do and think that a mock car key will really lead them to a real car. dream on!
i'm not usually so critical about mundane stuff, but this really irks me. =D

ooohhh prize payment slip! i get to win $300,00!
you know what really saddens me?
i used to have this impression that reader's digest is an esteemed publication with insightful information about the world. i remember loving their articles when i found a copy of it lying in the office. i guess i'm wrong. well, it's either that or their marketing department is seriously in need of re-training. preferably ethical training. or they should get a research department, you know, do some consumer behavior research and let the results show that singaporeans are educated enough to know that certain words cannot be taken seriously. (i hope)
i hate to think that there are people actually replying to the advertisement. i would be more tempted to sign up for their subscription if they just send me a straight forward letter stating clearly the subscription amount yearly and show me what kind of information they publish generally. not some beat-around-the-bush-and-full-of-hidden-terms-and-conditions stack of fanciful letters looking like they arrived from airmail.
i wonder, perhaps it is human nature to yearn for instant cash and gratification (that explains the long queue of 4-D buying singaporeans we see everyday) but what about the sense of satisfaction of hard work? in all our pursuits for material wants, have we neglected certain emotional needs? okay i digress.
oh btw, all these stuff are resting in my rubbish bin now. if only they know how important global warming is, and stop cutting down so many trees just to send people pages and pages of. whatever.
bleh. oh no and i'm going into this industry next time.
well, for every bad advertising there's good ones to applaud over too! =) i hope the works i produce next time will be good, or at least something that will not betray my conscience.
=D
