after completing two tedious exam papers, i have written everything from how to solve romantic problems at work to "are blogs the future of election coverage?" haha!
well, truth to say is after reading so many articles from 102, singapore books for 111 and assorted stuff for 107, i have came to realise many things. and one is to question the fundamentals for arguments and a wide variety of stuff you can think of with one item.
for instance, apple. apple is red, juicy and edible. but apples can be green, yellow or black for that matter. and apples came from different countries, different regions and different spots they grow from. apples can be eaten not only by humans but by other species too. apples have a scientific explanation for oxidation and browning. apples have different prices, subject to different currencies and inflation rates, so it is related to economics. some people in the third world countries have never seen apples before but some people in other countries eat them everyday. apples are not even called apples most of the time. apples are manzana in spanish, 苹果 in mandarin, mela in intalian, pomme in french and the list goes on....
what am i trying to say?
on one hand, with regards to singapore politics, i do understand why there is a need for opposition. there are things we are not satisfied, things which we think are violation of human rights, things which we moan and groan (GST up to 7%), things which we don't comprehend, things which we think the government is trying to trick us, things which we are doubtful about and many things we can complain about.
but what is the benchmark for everything?
what do YOU think is the best? US press? they are not flawless. A state welfare government that caters to everything? they are not flawless too.
we humans strive for the best. well, maybe aliens too but i don't know cos they are living on mars or whatever solar systems they are in. but we often think grass is greener on the other side. which reminds me of the explanation about conflicts i read in 101. comflicts happen when there are different opinions and viewpoints and they must be interlinked.
we must be person-centered and view other people as unique individuals and respect their views. even conflicting ones which we tend to label as "opposition". but why not "another perspective" or "different viewpoints for you to ponder"? because it is human nature. it is very true that whoever sits on the throne have self-biases. they attribute good things to themselves and bad to others. it is not anyone's fault but it is the way it is. history does show that with power come great responsibilities (or is it superman/spiderman who said it?) but with a small tag of human nature.
singapore government is not perfect. but we must give credit where it is due. we live in a peaceful county with water, food and shelter. we have technology, literacy and knowledge. we have a sunny weather all year long (though i wish for snow at times) and yes, it is not due to govt's policies but so what? =P
so singaporeans, complain when it is necessary (to your own definition of necessary though) but also do not take things for granted. we yearn for more but there are times we need to see that we already have what we need. it is nice to see that media is trying to include wider perspectives but most importantly we our own have to learn to be gracious, accept all possibilities and remember everyone has equal status of being a human being and living in this world.
kudos to the government but be sure that in the future i will state it if you do anything that i feel is wrong and i will supplement with evidence so you will not charge me with defamation. heeheehee! but for now i'm a bit apathetic to dig out anything and it will be very tedious cos everything in this world is so complicated so i'll just enjoy my life for the meantime. :)
The above piece of writing (which may contain spelling mistakes, grammar mistakes and sentence structure mistakes) is written when the author takes a break from studying her 107 notes and is entirely based on her personal feelings, emotions and opinions at the point of time. Thou shall only take it seriously if you want to take it seriously cos she wrote it seriously but it shall be referred to as a humor piece because she learnt that humor will not get her in court. Maybe it will someday but whatever. She also knows that writing about polictics in singapore is scarier than a nuclear bomb but she IS maintaining a neutral point of view, only observing. Don't try to accuse me of being partisan or pro-govt cos I AM NOT!!!!!! Such a nice feeling being neutral haha! She knows that there is much more to learn but she loves to ramble on so it took her a precious 60 minutes. now she thinks she have to go back to studying because she doesn't have much time to study.
ciao!
