CS Freshman Orientation Camp 2006

whoop! =) *smiles* i'm back!

apart from being sunburnt to the core, having a sore throat from screaming too much, flu because of the long nights, lots of mosquitoes bite, damn huge bruise on my left knee and feeling very very drained out, i had lots of fun!!!!!!! XD so many things happened, so many stories to tell lol, so just a warning now, this is gonna be a looonnnnnggggg post. hahaha

Alright, i'll start with the very first day. I woke up at 8am, packed my stuff, ate breakfast and went to catch a cab at 8.30am. fortunately enough, i arrived at the school of communication and information at 8.45am with time to spare. =) got my bright blue and yellow FOC (freshman orientation camp) t-shirt and settled down in my group. there are about 80+ freshies in the camp so we are split into four groups using hokkien names for seafood, namely Hur (fish), Ham (cockles), Heh (prawn) and Lala (well, shellfish i think)

I'm in Hur and our OGLs are jing li and angelina. actually i got quite a shock when i found out that our group have 16 girls and 4 guys. lol. then someone told me in CS (communication studies) the majority are girls. hahaha.

[digress: i think i'll kena lots of readers by typing so many names and stuff, esp my school's name but oh well. feel free to read! lol]

oh yah, back to the topic, as usual we started off with ice breaker games like whacko, animal game, name game (i'm joyful jingjing -.-) and some more. there are actually quite alot of AC ppl in the camp like reina (sc7) cheryl (sc9) sarah chrystal (i think she's in lala group) ming how and lots more. =) oh we had to make up cheers and stuff so here's a few.

oh there's this one CS cheer that they taught everyone and its really funny =P

after the ice breakers we had station games around the school. i found out that our fac is nearest to canteen B but its rumoured to be the worst canteen of all. oh well =x lol there's one game whereby each of us have to stick five mashmallows in our mouth and read out a phrase while the rest of us have to guess it. hahaha its rather gross but its amusing to watch =P another game is that we have to decorate a guy with toilet paper, newspaper, makeup and accessories and have him go up to a random someone and ask "am i pretty?" lol

oh i love the game win lose or draw after that. hahaa we had to pair up too and i paired with kairu =) we had to use markers to draw on each other's arms and the theme is movie title. i really think we are pro in this game cos we got almost everything right, even those really hard ones like anna and the king, howl's moving castle, i not stupid, catch me if you can etc. =D fun!

then our last game before dinner is the relay thingie. i paired with regina and we had to first use our heads to pick up a sponge, place it between our ears, skipped three times without letting it fall, go to a washing bowl and shampoo our hair and use the foam to fill a bowl, read a long phrase backwards, hola-hooped for five seconds and finally use paint to cover our faces and use our faces to paint a huge colouring paper. hee hee sounds very confusing right? lol we all laughed and laughed through the whole thing esp the hair washing part lol

ops lol i'm still talking about the first day right. lol. oh yah after the games me and reina and shengyong were chosen to go buy stuff to make our mascot with only ten bucks. the running around supermart thing is fun but its really diffcult to search for stuff. hahaa. thank goodness we found everything and it totaled to ten bucks exactly XD

after all these we all packed and went to sentosa at night. we had a filling dinner with ice cream (!!!) and proceed on to do our mascot. poor kairu she felt really unwell on the bus trip and kept vomitting when we reached sentosa. thank god she was well the next day and for the rest of the camp too =) take care girl!! anyway we were very enthu about doing our "fishie" mascot and it turned out really nice and big with a very colourful tail hee hee. we even braided the tail cos its actually the mophead. hahaha =)

then its nightfall and we played one last game on the sand before turning in for the night. i think i love this game most during the whole camp because its relaxing yet totally hilarious and very engaging too. wahahaha. XD first they blindfolded all of us and whispered an animal's name to our ears like dog, cat, pig, cow, sheep etc. i kena the frog one and almost burst out laughing because its really lame to go "croak ribbit croak ribbit" all the time. heeheehee anyway we were all led into this enclosed area on the sand and we had to only make the sound of our animal and find people the same species as us. i giggled and croaked at the same time so it wasn't very convincing but i managed to find most of the frogs in the area too. the annoying thing is that the seniors will distract you and try to break your group by pulling you away so we all were fighting and croaking at the same time. hahahaa i think the funniest part is when i hear other silly sounds like "hai dai!!! (seaweed)" "tarzan sound" "mee pok!!" "laska!!!" "worm!! who's worm? i don't know what is a worm sound!" "gorzilla!!!!" etc. its actually a tradition to play this game every year and four lucky person will get a unique (and weird) animal and the seniors get to laugh at them trying to make the sound of that particular animal. hahahaaa

then finally at around 1am we all went to get some sleep in the pavilion at siloso beach. =) i couldn't really sleep well because the floor is damn hard and there are lots of mosquitoes flying around. i think i finally slept at 3 or 4am in the morning but was waken up by the rain at around 6am and its splashing on regina and me. hahaha. we moved further in the pavilion but had to wake up at 7am so we didn't really sleep much. =x

had strawberry and potato bread for breakfast and also hot milo =) after freshing up, we started the beach games. man. that was the mindblowing part and the beginning of the very long story.

see, because our group lost most of the games on the first day so our morale was really low. thus we all were determined to win most of the beach games on the second day. so it started off with this waterbomb-cum-volleyball game.

we had to split into two groups, each ten people and use a big piece of waterproof cloth as our weapon. we were supposed to throw a waterbomb over the net and the other group has to catch it with their cloth without the bomb exploding and the game continues until the bomb explodes or it went out of bounds.

then there's those little rules like we have to say "PIKA" when we fire, and "CHU" when we catch. hahaha. we won our first game and got second for the finale. =) it really brightens up our group's mood and thus we went on winning more games like the frisbee and the fill-the-bottle thingy. oh the fill the bottle one is fun cos we had to hop over our teammates, spin ten times, go into the ocean and soak ourselves and then squeeze all the water into two bottles. =) hahaha i lost my balance when spinning and went into the ocean straight lol.

but then that's about the end of our winning streak because the game after that is the sand castle war game. we have to build a huge sand castle and fill about 400 water bombs and when the whistle is blown, we have to guard our castle and attack other castles at the same time. that was when our group got tao pok-ed by the rest of the groups cos they combined forces and attacked our sand castle. mannn okay i admit our sand castle is the biggest thus it makes sense to bomb us but they don't have to aim ours solely right??? and they cheated by secretly rebuilding theirs so we followed suit and cheated too. wahahaha. yah, that was when our whole group got really pissed off as everyone's against us so we cheered and cheered and cheered and form a circle around of castle so no one can bomb us. i have to admit it really bonded our OG cos we realised we have to fight as one group to win. =)

the games following that like the dog-and-bone thingy we lost to other groups as everyone, even the referee went against us. one of my teammate even had a guy coming up to her and say "don't touch us or i'll Zidane you" HAHAHA. that's the tagline of the year man. XD then we had this game where we have to use a cucumber dangling in between our legs (yes it looks really really perverted lol. that's the aim of it haha) and roll an orange along the line to the end point. hahahaaa its really amusing because we have to use our hips to swing the cucumber and the movement looks so awkward. lol

but then the depressing event was when there are two groups left, us and the cockles (ham). then the rest of the people started cheering "go ham go!!!!!!" throughout and didn't even utter our name once. that was when we knew we were being hated by everyone else. =( seriously, its not a nice feeling to see that people stare at you with that "you suck" look and ostrasizing you. =(

yah so we all were very depressed and angry but we didn't want to fight back because we knew that it will just make things worse so we tried very hard to ignore them and continue to try our best at the rest of the games. but then i could see that everyone's very sian even our ogl but we couldn't do much, just carrying on with the games.

den we had this waterbomb throwing game using our shirts and we got the last again. sigh. after that we had this last relay game whereby we had to first catch waterbombs, then use a spoon to transfer a pingpong ball to the nest person, use glue on a paper plate and aim at another person's face then unlock one of our ogl and bury her in the sand before we can win the game. the stupidest thing is that other groups' ogls (unintentionally) tao pok our members at the starting line AGAIN and cause us to start the game the latest. that was really one of the last straws and we were all really so pissed and we even complained to some of our seniors. but then we didn't want to blow things up so we didn't confront other groups.
